The license agreement for Harlow, the terms for this site, and how we handle your data.

Harlow and harlow-engine.com are made by Pyno Stevens. This page holds the license agreement for Harlow, the terms for this website and the license page, and the privacy policy. Questions about any of it go to info@harlow-engine.com.

License agreement#

Harlow License Agreement. This agreement is between Pyno Stevens ("we") and you, the person who downloads, installs or uses Harlow. "Harlow" means the Harlow plugins for TouchDesigner, with every file, example and document that comes with them, and every update. By installing or using Harlow you accept this agreement. If you don't, don't install or use it.

Builds handed out in the closed beta are covered by the closed beta license that came with them, not by this one.

1. What you may do#

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use each Harlow build you received while you had an active membership of a Patreon tier that includes Harlow, on up to 3 computers that you own or control, each activated with its own license key.

A license belongs to one person. A studio or company needs a license for each person who uses Harlow.

2. Builds and memberships#

A license key unlocks every build released while your membership was active, plus a short grace period, and keeps working for those builds after your membership ends. Builds released later need an active membership. We may change, add or remove features between builds, and we don't promise future builds, support or any particular release schedule.

3. What you make is yours#

Renders, videos, images, projects, installations and performances you create with Harlow belong to you. You may use them for any purpose, including commercial and client work.

You may share .toe and .tox files that contain Harlow operators. Anyone who opens them needs their own license for the Harlow operators to run.

4. What you may not do#

You may not, in whole or in part:

  • share, upload, sell, rent, lend or otherwise distribute Harlow's files, or include them in a project, component, installer or package you give to anyone else;
  • share, sell or publish license keys, or let anyone else use yours;
  • work around, disable or tamper with the license check or any other technical restriction;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Harlow, except where the law allows it regardless of this agreement;
  • modify Harlow or make derivative works of it, or remove any copyright or license notice from it.

5. Third-party components#

Harlow includes third-party components, listed on the Credits page and in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt. They stay under their own licenses, and nothing here limits the rights those licenses give you.

6. Ownership and feedback#

Harlow is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights to it, including all intellectual property rights, and every right not granted here is reserved. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely.

7. Ending the agreement#

This agreement lasts until it is ended. It ends automatically if you break it. When it ends you must stop using Harlow and delete it. Sections 4 to 10 continue after it ends.

8. No warranty#

Harlow is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It runs heavy GPU workloads and may crash, hang or lose unsaved work. Save and back up your work.

9. Limitation of liability#

To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or use, arising from Harlow or this agreement. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for your membership in the 12 months before the claim.

10. Your rights as a consumer#

Nothing in this agreement limits rights you have under the consumer protection law of your country that can't be waived by contract.

11. Payments and refunds#

Memberships, payments and refunds are handled by Patreon under Patreon's terms. We never see or store your payment details.

12. General#

If any part of this agreement can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect. This is the whole agreement between you and us about Harlow. A new build may come with an updated agreement; the agreement that came with a build applies to that build.

Website terms#

These terms cover harlow-engine.com and the license page at license.harlow-engine.com.

  • Content. The text, images, renders and documentation on this site are © Pyno Stevens. You may read, print and link to them, and quote short parts with a link back. Don't republish the documentation or renders as your own.
  • The license page. You log in with your Patreon account and must follow Patreon's terms. Use the license page only for your own membership. Automated use, or sharing an account to get keys for other people, may get your computers removed.
  • Links. Links to other sites (Patreon, NVIDIA, Derivative and others) are for convenience; we aren't responsible for their content.
  • No warranty. The site and the documentation are provided as is. We try to keep them accurate, but the documentation that comes with a build is the reference for that build.

Privacy policy#

We collect as little as we can. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking on this site or in Harlow.

This website#

harlow-engine.com sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties: fonts and images are served from this domain. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses and request details to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy. We don't receive or keep per-visitor logs.

The license page#

When you log in with Patreon, Patreon tells us your name, your Patreon user and member ids, and the state of your Harlow membership: whether it's active, which tiers it includes, and the date and status of your last payment (not the amount or your payment details). We don't ask Patreon for your email address.

We store, per membership: the machine codes of the computers you activate, when you activated or removed each one, and nothing else. A machine code is a 16-character value derived one-way from Windows' installation id; it can't be turned back into that id and contains nothing personal. The license keys you get contain your name, the machine code and the build dates they cover. Keys are made when you view them and aren't stored.

Logging in sets one cookie, hrlw, which keeps you logged in for 2 hours. It's strictly necessary for the page to work, so no consent banner is needed. Cloudflare keeps short-lived error logs, which may include your membership state when a key is refused.

Harlow itself#

Harlow never sends anything over the internet. It checks your license key offline. The key is stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Harlow\license.key and the log file in %TEMP%\Harlow.log; both stay on your computer. The Activate Online button only opens the license page in your browser, with your machine code in the address.

Email#

If you email us, Cloudflare Email Routing forwards the message to our inbox. We use your address and message only to reply, and delete them when they're no longer needed.

Your rights#

You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing info@harlow-engine.com. Deleting your machine list frees all 3 computer slots and resets your removals. We answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

The data controller is Pyno Stevens, reachable at info@harlow-engine.com.
